Entry One
Regarding a story told to Trillion as a child.
There was this old story that I was told as a kid, by the older children in the orphanage, about a man who fell in love with a mad scientist. The scientist would work day and night, trying to figure out how he could create something that could outlast us. He was terrified of the fact that one day, our legacy as people would be gone forever. Most people thought him crazy, but not the man. The man would visit him, listen to his theories, bring him food… and eventually, he fell in love with him. But one day, a terrible tragedy happened, in which the scientist went truly mad. He was banished to the shadows by the one person he loved, so he could not hurt anyone in his state, heightened by fear and insanity, but not before he heard the man mutter “I love you.”
Well, I thought I was told it as a child. It brought me comfort to think that at least the other children cared for me. But no. It was nothing but a strange dream of two insane men who fell in love, and who lost each other in their struggle to create something more. Strange… I've never had a dream this vivid or detailed before.
