I Saw the TV Glow is a psychological horror film written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun (they/them) and premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 18 2024. It is the second film made independently by Schoenbrun and the second of a trilogy of (presumably) movies they hope to complete. The movie was written directly inspired by their own life, with The Pink Opaque, the in-universe TV show the movie revolves around, mirroring Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a show Schoenbrun watched in their childhood. They began working on the film not long after they came out as trans and began HRT. The story of Owen was based around their fears of how they would've lived their life if they never transitioned.
