Half-Life VR but the AI is Self-Aware

Half-Life VR but the AI is Self-Aware is an improv comedy series made in Gary's mod and using the half-life maps and character models. The premise is that Wayne (Wayneradiotv, the streamer who created the series) has found an old prototype version of half-life which has VR capabilities and adaptive AI. In reality, the adaptive AI are his friends voice acting. The original series was streamed in 2020 with the first stream being on the 5th March 2020. Half-life 2 VR: Self-Aware AI, as of writing this, is ongoing, and the first stream was on the 14th March 2026.

My thoughts (disorganised)

HLVRAI is genuinely one of my favourite forms of improv comedy. I love video games, I love improv comedy and I love Half-Life so it was right up my alley. I watched the full series through in 2022 and was obsessed with it until a couple of months into 2023 when Ranboo's Generation Loss series took over my brain space. But this year is the year of HL2:VRAI, so I just had to rewatch it and get obsessed all over again in preparation for the new series. As of writing this, the second stream has just aired and I'm waiting for the edited version of Act 2 to come out so I can watch it, but I watched the first stream live and it was hillarious. There's 10 mintue long loading screens between areas of the map so things can get set up and I'm certain that someone's going to make a LOADING compilation when the series is over this summer. I'd be tempted to watch the whole thing if I wasn't already not watching the streams to avoid the loading side plot I'm sure is going to develop.

It's funny looking back that I wasn't even old enough to watch Wayne's streams when I watched the first series. I never really got into the wider RTS content outside of HLVRAI, which really wasn't too bad for my age at the time besides there being an entire section about dick jokes. Now I'm older I can definitely appreciate all the effort and technical stuff that goes into these series more and I'm looking forward to the HL2:VRAI cast commentary when the series ends.
